Cadence Names Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose 2004 Stars & Strikes Beneficiary; 49ers Foundation Partners with Cadence for Local Fundraising Event
SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 3, 2004—
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN), together with
the 49ers Foundation, today announced that they have chosen the
Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose as the 2004 beneficiary of the
11th Stars & Strikes(TM) fund-raiser. The museum provides children,
families and schools with a center for learning and discovery, and
aims to instill a sense of wonder and joy in learning through playful,
scientific exploration. Proceeds from the event will aid in the
construction of an 8,600 square-foot outdoor learning laboratory.
Cadence underwrites and organizes Stars & Strikes, a bowling
tournament that features Silicon Valley and celebrity bowlers raising
funds for selected community programs. The goal of this year's event
is to raise at least $500,000 for the Children's Discovery Museum.
"We are extremely pleased and grateful to be this year's
beneficiary of the Cadence Stars & Strikes fundraiser," said Connie
Martinez, executive director of the Children's Discovery Museum of San
Jose. "The funds will enable us to complete construction of our
amphitheater, which will impact the programs that reach out to the
hardest to serve, the disadvantaged youth in the area. By selecting us
as the beneficiary, Cadence and the 49ers Foundation are directly
benefiting children and the surrounding community for years to come by
providing a permanent home base for some of our in-depth educational
programs."
"In the current economic climate, projects that directly benefit
at-risk families and children in our community have been seriously
under-funded," said Ray Bingham, president and CEO of Cadence. "Stars
& Strikes leverages contributions from companies and individuals to
help make these scientific and educational projects a reality."
"We're excited about renewing our partnership with Cadence and
Stars & Strikes," said Tom Bowen, executive director of the 49ers
Foundation. "We look forward to involving current and alumni players
and coaches to help make this year's Stars & Strikes event memorable
and successful."
Stars & Strikes has become one of the largest community events of
its kind in Silicon Valley. Since 1990, Cadence partners in business
have come together as partners in the community raising more than $4.7
million, most of which has been used to fund major programs and
projects that provide significant benefits to local non-profit
organizations and charities that serve those in need.
Companies interested in sponsorship opportunities or in having a
team compete in the tournament should call Kathy Wheeler, senior
community relations manager, at 408-428-5993.
